Staff Selection Commission — Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Examination
The Class 10-level SSC exam for Multi-Tasking Staff and Havaldar posts.
SSC MTS is live on Kitabey for institutes — coaching centres can run SSC MTS-pattern tests for their students using their own questions or an uploaded PDF. Kitabey's own SSC MTS question bank is still being built, so self-serve practice and mock tests for students will open up as it grows.
SSC MTS is a single computer-based exam taken in two back-to-back sessions. Session-I is qualifying; Session-II is evaluated only for candidates who clear Session-I's minimum marks.
Havaldar candidates additionally go through a Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test after the CBT.
| Mode | Computer-based test in two mandatory sessions |
| Duration | 45 minutes per session (60 minutes per session for candidates using a scribe) |
| Session-I | Numerical & Mathematical Ability (20) + Reasoning Ability & Problem Solving (20) — 40 questions, 120 marks |
| Session-II | General Awareness (25) + English Language & Comprehension (25) — 50 questions, 150 marks |
| Total questions | 90 questions, 270 marks — single-correct MCQs with 4 options |
| Medium | English, Hindi and SSC's regional-language mediums; the English section is set in English only |
Marking scheme
Correct
+3 for every correct answer
Incorrect
No negative marking in Session-I; −1 for every incorrect answer in Session-II
Session-I is qualifying — the minimum is 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for other categories. Session-II is evaluated only if you clear it.
Session-I is a gate with no negative marking — attempt every question there. Clearing it comfortably is what gets Session-II evaluated.
Session-II carries −1 per wrong answer on a +3 question. Accuracy matters more than attempts.
Session-II is where merit is decided. A daily mix of grammar practice and GA revision pays off more than last-minute cramming.
Practise the two 45-minute sessions in one sitting so you're used to switching from maths and reasoning to GA and English.
